Frequently asked questions

What does a contract administrator do?

A contract administrator manages contracts after signing. They keep the contract register, follow renewal dates and obligations, monitor bank guarantees and insurance, process change orders, check invoices against contract terms and keep signed documents safe. The aim is to avoid lapses, disputes and money lost through missed terms.

What is the difference between a contract administrator and a contracts manager?

A contracts manager negotiates and approves contracts, decides commercial positions and handles disputes. A contract administrator runs the contracts after signing: register, dates, guarantees, change orders and documents. The administrator usually reports to the contracts manager and flags issues that need a decision.

What qualifications does a contract administrator need?

Most employers ask for a graduate degree in commerce, law or business and three to six years in contracts or commercial work. An LLB or a contract management diploma helps. Strong reading of contract clauses, Excel skills and careful record keeping matter more than any single qualification.
