About the role
An Integration Developer connects applications so data and processes flow between them without manual re-entry. Key responsibilities
- Study source and target systems, data formats and business rules for each interface with analysts and system owners.
- Design integration flows covering message format, mapping, error handling, retries and idempotency.
- Build REST and SOAP APIs, queue consumers, file-based interfaces and scheduled jobs on the integration platform.
- Write transformations between JSON, XML, CSV and fixed-width formats such as bank payment files.
- Integrate with external partners such as payment gateways, courier APIs, GST portals and bank host-to-host channels.
- Secure interfaces with OAuth, API keys, certificates and IP whitelisting as each partner requires.
- Write unit and integration tests against mocked endpoints, and support SIT with partner teams.
- Set up logging, alerts and dashboards so failed messages are visible and can be replayed.
- Investigate production failures, reprocess stuck messages and fix the root causes.
- Document each interface with its specification, mappings, contacts and runbook.
Requirements
- B.E., B.Tech, BCA or MCA
- MuleSoft Certified Developer or an Azure integration certification is an advantage

What does an integration developer do?
An integration developer builds the connections between software systems. They create APIs, message flows, file transfers and connectors so data moves automatically between ERP, CRM, e-commerce, payment and partner systems. They handle mapping, security, error handling and monitoring so that transactions are neither lost nor duplicated.
What is MuleSoft, and do integration developers need it?
MuleSoft Anypoint is an integration platform for building and managing APIs and data flows. Many Indian IT services firms and enterprises hire specifically for MuleSoft, while others use Dell Boomi, Azure Integration Services, TIBCO or open source tools like Apache Camel. The core skills of APIs, data formats and error handling carry across all of them.
What is the difference between an integration developer and a backend developer?
A backend developer builds the server-side logic of one application. An integration developer focuses on how several applications exchange data, often across companies, and spends more time on mapping, partner protocols, reliability and monitoring. The skills overlap and many developers move between the two.
