What managers do in MSS
What a manager can see depends on the reporting structure in the HR system. A manager sees their direct reports and, in many systems, the people further down their reporting line as well, while sensitive fields such as salary stay hidden unless the manager's role allows them.
- Approve or reject leave, attendance corrections, WFH and on duty requests
- Approve overtime and shift swaps for the team
- See live attendance: who is in, late, on leave or not in yet
- Check the team leave calendar before approving new leave
- Rate probation reviews and recommend confirmation
Why MSS speeds up HR work
Approvals are where HR processes slow down. When a store manager has to call HR for a leave balance, or a request sits in someone's inbox during a busy week, employees wait and payroll closes with pending items. MSS puts the information and the decision in the same place. It also makes managers accountable for their team's attendance and leave, which is where that responsibility belongs, instead of HR policing it after the month ends.
Setting up MSS
MSS depends on correct reporting lines. Before switching it on, check that every employee has the right reporting manager and that nobody reports to someone who has left. Train managers on the rules they approve against, such as sandwich rules and correction limits. In ZeniaHR, My Team gives managers a live team board, approvals for leave, corrections, WFH, on duty, shift swaps and overtime, the team leave calendar and probation reviews, on the web and in the mobile app.

What can a manager see in manager self-service?
A manager sees HR information for the people who report to them: attendance, leave balances and applications, pending requests, team calendars and review tasks. Many systems also show indirect reports further down the reporting line. Sensitive fields such as salary and bank details are usually hidden from managers unless their role specifically allows access.
Do managers or HR approve leave in MSS?
Usually both, one after the other. The reporting manager approves first, because they know the work and the team's availability, and HR approves next to check the policy and balance. Some companies make the manager's approval final for routine leave. Write the approval chain into the leave policy so employees know who decides.
