Exit management for salons and spas

When a senior stylist resigns, some clients may follow. Good salon exits fix notice by role, hand clients over while the stylist is still serving notice, pay commission earned up to the last day, recover advances within legal limits, and settle dues within two working days. Staff who leave well often come back for the next wedding season, so the door should stay open.

Notice and client handover

Stylists and therapists usually serve 15 days to one month, and senior stylists and managers one to two months. During notice, move upcoming bookings to other stylists with the client's agreement, and introduce regular clients to their new stylist in person. Update the booking system the day the resignation is recorded, not on the last day, so no client arrives to find a stranger in her stylist's chair.

Commission, advances and deductions

Commission and incentives for services done until the final working day follow the normal monthly formula. Recover pending salary advances as agreed in writing, keeping every deduction within the permitted limits. Holding back commission to punish a resignation only creates disputes and complaints, and it tells the stylists who stay what to expect when their turn comes.

Clearance and settlement

Log the resignation in ZeniaHR so the last working day is fixed, then clear the 8-item exit checklist and pick one of the 20 exit reasons. For any kind of exit, final wages are due within two working days, so run the settlement as an off-cycle payroll with commission, leave encashment as per policy and approved recoveries, and follow the settlement checklist for the paperwork.

Rehiring for the season

Some stylists and therapists leave after the wedding season or to go home, and want to return later. Record the exit reason and rehire eligibility. Their old record remains under previous employees, so a rehire before Diwali only needs updated documents, fresh police verification where it has lapsed, and a new appointment letter.

How to set it up in ZeniaHR

  1. Enter notice days for stylists, therapists and managers in the Work terms policy, using grade overrides for seniors.
  2. Record resignations to set the last working day, and move bookings in the first week of notice.
  3. Enter final commission and advance recovery as payroll inputs in an off-cycle run.
  4. Complete the 8-item exit checklist and record one of the 20 exit reasons.
  5. Mark rehire eligibility and invite good leavers back before the next season.

Frequently asked questions

What is the notice period for salon staff?

The appointment letter fixes it. Stylists and therapists commonly serve 15 days to a month, while senior stylists and salon managers serve one to two months. The notice period is when client handover happens, so plan it from the day the resignation is recorded.

Is commission paid in full and final settlement?

Yes. Commission on every service done before the stylist's final day goes into the settlement, worked out with the usual formula. Agreed salary advance instalments can be recovered within permitted deductions, and the full settlement is due within two working days of the last day.

When should a salon pay final dues to a stylist who resigns?

The law gives two working days from the stylist's last day, whether she resigned or was asked to leave. Close attendance, get the commission sheet for the final month, and run an off-cycle payroll rather than waiting for the next monthly run.
