Mandatory training
Mark these as mandatory programs with a 12-month validity, so every stylist and therapist repeats them once a year. A salon that can show a signed training record after a client's allergic reaction is in a far better position than one that says 'everyone knows'.
- Sterilization and station hygiene
- Patch tests and allergy checks before colour and chemical services
- Handling and storing chemicals, including bleach and keratin products
- Spa hygiene, linen, and client privacy and consent
- First aid for burns, cuts and allergic reactions
- POSH awareness and how to reach the Internal Committee
Technique workshops
Cuts, colour techniques and bridal looks change every season. Monthly in-house workshops led by a senior stylist or a product brand's educator keep the team current and give juniors something to aim for. Record each as a classroom program with hours, and add validity only to programs that need refreshing, such as chemical safety, so technique workshops do not show up as expired.
Certificates that expire
Some certificates carry an expiry date, such as first aid courses and certain international beauty and spa qualifications. Create them as external programs in ZeniaHR's Learning module with their validity in months. When HR closes an enrolment as complete, the system gives it a certificate number and an end date, and each program's compliance list separates current, in-progress and lapsed staff.
Retail and consultation skills
Retail sales and client consultation are skills, not personality traits. Short sessions on the product range, role-plays on recommending home care after a colour service, and practice on handling a client who wants a look that will not suit her hair improve both retail and rebooking. Run them in the quiet weekday mornings and record them as programs with hours.

What training do salon staff need?
Hygiene and tool sterilization, patch tests and allergy checks, chemical handling, first aid for burns and reactions, client privacy and consent, POSH awareness, and technique and product training for their role. Mandatory safety topics should be refreshed every year and recorded against each person.
How often should salons refresh hygiene training?
At least once a year for every stylist, beautician and therapist, and whenever the salon changes products, tools or procedures. Record it with a 12-month validity so the refresher is due automatically, and run a short reminder before the festival rush.
Do spa therapists need certification?
Many spas require a recognized certificate in massage or spa therapy and check it at hiring. Some international qualifications carry expiry dates, so record the validity. First aid certification is also useful for therapists who work one to one with clients.
