Job title: Process Excellence Analyst
Department: Operations
Reports to: Process Improvement Manager
Location: [City], [office, branch or site]
About the role
A Process Excellence Analyst studies how work flows through a process, measures where time and errors are lost, and supports improvement projects with data and analysis. Working with the process improvement manager and process owners, the role maps processes, sets baselines, runs statistical analysis and checks whether improvements hold. A good analyst finds the real cause of a problem in the data rather than accepting the first explanation offered.
Key responsibilities
- Map current processes step by step with process owners, noting handoffs, waiting time, rework loops and approvals.
- Collect baseline data on cycle time, error rates, volumes and cost for each process chosen for improvement.
- Analyse data with Pareto analysis, control charts and statistical tests in Minitab to show which causes really drive the problem.
- Run time and motion or transaction studies to measure how long each step actually takes.
- Help design future-state processes, standard work and checklists with the project team.
- Build before and after comparisons and prepare savings calculations for finance review.
- Set up control charts or dashboards for process owners once a project closes.
- Document SOPs and process maps for improved processes and publish them in the process library.
- Facilitate small Kaizen workshops and help teams apply improvement tools correctly.
Requirements
- Graduate in engineering, statistics or commerce
- Six Sigma Green Belt certification
- Black Belt training is an advantage
- 2 to 5 years in operations, quality or analytics roles

Interview questions for a Process Excellence Analyst
- How would you establish a baseline for a process that has no reliable data?
- Explain a control chart to a process owner who has never seen one.
- When would you use a hypothesis test instead of simply comparing averages?
- Tell me about a root cause you found that surprised the team.
- How do you separate hard savings from soft savings in a project?
- A process owner insists the problem is people, not the process. How do you test that?

What does a process excellence analyst do?
A process excellence analyst supports improvement projects with evidence. They map processes, collect baseline data, run statistical analysis to confirm root causes, help design better processes, calculate savings and set up control charts so the gains last. They usually work under a process improvement or business excellence manager.
What is the difference between a process excellence analyst and an operations analyst?
An operations analyst reports on how the operation is running every day: volume, productivity, cost and staffing. A process excellence analyst works project by project to change how a process runs, using Lean and Six Sigma tools. One measures the current state; the other redesigns it.
Which certification is needed for a process excellence analyst?
Most employers ask for a Six Sigma Green Belt from a recognised body, and some prefer candidates working towards a Black Belt. Lean practitioner training and Minitab skills help. Interviewers usually ask for a real project walkthrough, so a completed Green Belt project matters more than the certificate.
