How it works
- The employee taps Punch out in the app before the shift has ended, and the app asks for the reason for leaving early.
- The reason is saved on the punch-out, such as 'Daughter's school called, fever'.
- ZeniaHR rebuilds the day. If it ends short of the full-day hours after grace, an early exit request is raised automatically with the punch-out time and the hours worked.
- The request goes to the reporting manager and then HR, on the usual chain.
- If it is approved, the day is paid in full. If it is rejected, the day is graded by its hours, and early-out rules may apply.
- Early exit requests never count toward the employee's monthly correction limit.
What you can set
- Trigger: a punch-out in the app before the shift ends, with the early exit prompt confirmed.
- Reason: saved on the punch-out itself.
- A request is raised only when the day is short of the full-day hours after grace.
- Approval chain: reporting manager, then HR.
- Approved early exit: the day is paid in full.
- Correction limits: early exit requests are exempt.
Why early exits need a request, not a correction
Without an early exit request, a person who leaves at 3 pm for a genuine reason ends up with a half day, raises a correction later, and hopes the manager remembers why. Asking for the reason at the moment of leaving captures it while it is fresh, and raising the request automatically means nobody has to remember anything. The manager decides with the reason in front of them, and HR sees the decision well before month close.
Worked example: a school call in Visakhapatnam
Swapna Rao is a QA executive at a Visakhapatnam pharma plant on a 9 am to 6 pm shift with a 60-minute break and 8 full-day hours. At 2:10 pm her daughter's school calls to say her daughter has a fever. Swapna taps Punch out in the app, and the app asks why she is leaving early. She types 'Daughter unwell, school called' and confirms.
She punched in at 8:58 am, so she has 5 hours 12 minutes of gross time and 4 hours 12 minutes after the break, short of a full day. ZeniaHR raises an early exit request with 2:10 pm as the out time. Her manager approves it at 4 pm and HR the next morning, so the day is paid in full. Had the request been rejected, the day would have counted as a half day by its hours.
Setting expectations with staff
Early exit requests are a courtesy, not an entitlement, so staff need to know how managers will treat them. A short note in the HR policy settles most questions before they are asked and keeps decisions consistent across teams and shifts, whoever the manager is.
- Explain that the reason goes to the manager, so it should be honest and short.
- Agree with managers what counts as a good reason, such as medical, family or work-related.
- Tell staff that an approved early exit is paid in full, and a rejected one is graded by hours.
- Watch for repeated early exits from one person; they may need a different shift.

What is an early exit request?
It is a request to excuse a day on which an employee left before the shift ended. In the ZeniaHR app the employee gives the reason when punching out early, and if the day is short of a full day, the request goes to the manager and HR. Once both approve, the day counts as a full paid day.
Does an early exit count against my correction limit?
No. Early exit requests are raised by the app when you confirm an early punch-out, and they never count toward the monthly limit on attendance corrections. Other corrections, such as a forgotten punch-out, still count toward the limit as usual.
What happens to the day if the early exit is rejected?
The day is graded by the hours you actually worked: a full day, a half day or absent, depending on your company's full-day and half-day hours. If the attendance rules include early-out marks, leaving early may also count toward those.
