Frequently asked questions

What does an accountancy teacher teach in Class 11 and 12?

In Class 11, an accountancy teacher covers accounting basics: principles, journal, ledger, trial balance, depreciation, bank reconciliation and final accounts. Class 12 moves to partnership accounts, company accounts, analysis of financial statements and cash flow statements, with a computerized accounting option in some schools.

What qualification is required to become an accountancy teacher?

Schools usually ask for an M.Com with a B.Ed to teach Classes 11 and 12. Coaching institutes often hire CA, CMA or CS qualified teachers without a B.Ed. To teach B.Com students in a college, you normally need a master's degree with UGC NET or a PhD.

Can a CA become an accountancy teacher in a school?

Yes, but the route depends on the employer. Board-affiliated schools generally ask for a postgraduate degree and a B.Ed for senior secondary posts, so a CA without these may be engaged as visiting faculty. Coaching institutes and many colleges value the CA qualification highly for accountancy teaching.
