Frequently asked questions

What does a graduate engineer trainee do?

A graduate engineer trainee rotates through production, quality, maintenance, planning and projects to learn how a plant runs. They study each process in depth, analyse data, and deliver an improvement project. The programme prepares a fresh engineering graduate to take an engineer or team lead role once the rotations and assessments are complete.

What is the difference between a GET and a management trainee?

A graduate engineer trainee, or GET, is groomed for technical engineering roles in production, quality, maintenance or design. A management trainee is usually developed for business functions such as operations management, supply chain or commercial roles. Both rotate through the organisation, but the GET stays closer to the engineering and shop floor side.

What qualifications do you need for a graduate engineer trainee role?

You need a BE or BTech in mechanical, production, electrical or a related branch. Employers value strong academics, a solid final year project, and skills in data analysis and basic quality tools. Awareness of lean or Six Sigma, good communication and a willingness to work on the shop floor all help.
