Showroom shifts that cover 10 am to 8:30 pm
A showroom open from 10 am to 8:30 pm cannot run on one nine-hour shift. Use two: an early shift of 10 am to 7 pm and a late shift of 11:30 am to 8:30 pm. The whole team overlaps from 11:30 am to 7 pm, when walk-ins peak, and the late shift covers visitors who come after work. Rotate consultants between early and late weeks so that nobody always gets the evenings.
Weekday offs for a team of ten
Take a showroom with ten sales consultants and a rule that all ten work on Saturdays and Sundays. Give two consultants each weekday, Monday to Friday, as their weekly off: 2 x 5 = 10 offs, one for each person. Every weekday then has eight consultants on the floor, and weekends have all ten. Fix each person's weekday off for at least a quarter, so they can plan family life around it.
Workshop, washing bay and security
The workshop starts earlier to receive vehicles before owners leave for work, typically 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, with lunch staggered so the bays never stop entirely. The washing bay starts at 8 am so the first cars are clean for the day's deliveries. Security runs day and night shifts, with the night shift crossing midnight. A workshop open seven days needs staggered weekday offs for technicians too, while one that closes on a fixed weekday is simpler to roster.
The festival season roster
From Navratri to Bhai Dooj, move the showroom to a festival roster: longer hours, no weekday offs in the peak week, and comp-off credited for each weekly off worked. Assign it in bulk for the whole season and publish it a fortnight before Navratri. Shift swaps will still happen, and they should go through the team leader and HR, so the Dhanteras roster is never short because of a private arrangement.
