What does a Receiving Executive do?
A Receiving Executive runs the inbound gate of a warehouse. They unload deliveries, check goods against the purchase order and invoice for quantity and quality, raise the goods receipt, and hand stock to put-away. They catch short, excess, wrong or damaged deliveries at the door and keep the receiving dock clear for quick vehicle turnaround.
Why is accurate receiving important?
Receiving sets the starting point for inventory. If goods are received wrong, every downstream step, from put-away to picking to stock counts, inherits the error. Accurate checking against the purchase order and invoice, and a correct goods receipt, keep inventory reliable and prevent disputes with vendors over shortages or damage.
What is the difference between a Receiving Executive and a Store Keeper?
A Receiving Executive focuses on the inbound step: unloading, checking and recording deliveries. A Store Keeper manages stored stock over time, issuing it against indents and keeping records. Receiving brings stock in correctly; the store keeper looks after it and gives it out. In smaller stores one person may do both.
