How Gujarat sets its minimum wages
Gujarat fixes minimum wages as a basic wage plus a special allowance (a VDA that tracks the cost of living), split across two zones. The special allowance is revised twice a year, effective 1 April and 1 October, and the monthly figure is the daily rate multiplied by 26.
The rates on this page are the common schedule that applies across scheduled employments, including Shops and Commercial Establishments and private security services, effective 1 April 2026 to 30 September 2026 (special allowance ₹60.50 per day). They will be revised again on 1 October 2026.
Gujarat revises the special allowance twice a year, on 1 April and 1 October, against the cost-of-living index. The basic wage changes only when a fresh notification is issued, so the current figures apply until 30 September 2026.

What employers must do
- Pay every worker at least the notified minimum for their skill category and zone. Paying below it is an offence.
- Pay overtime at twice the ordinary rate for work beyond normal hours.
