How Telangana sets its minimum wages
In 2026 Telangana replaced its old system of hundreds of employment-specific wage schedules with a single consolidated structure under the Code on Wages, 2019. Government Order G.O.Ms.No.6 (notified 30 May 2026, effective 1 June 2026) sets four skill categories across three zones, which apply to all scheduled employments including shops, commercial establishments and security services.
Rates are notified as consolidated monthly minimums. A separate per-day figure and any security-specific rate are not confirmed here; confirm them against the official Government Order before acting.
Under the Code on Wages, base rates are set by Government Order and a dearness-allowance component is revised twice a year. Because the notification is under litigation, treat the current position as provisional and confirm before acting.
Zones in Telangana
- Zone I is areas within Municipal Corporations.
- Zone II is areas within Municipalities.
- Zone III is rural and all other areas of the state.
What employers must do
- Pay every worker at least the notified minimum for their skill category and zone. Paying below it is an offence.
- Pay overtime at twice the ordinary rate for work beyond normal hours.
- Maintain a wage register, muster roll and wage slips, and pay within the wage period.
- Update payroll at each revision so no worker slips below the new minimum.
